User Guide|MagTran M3 Quick Start (Beginner Tutorial)

Before You Start

This guide focuses only on the new features and unique characteristics of the MagTran M3.
General StreamDock functions (such as basic key setup, page switching, and common plugins) are not covered here.

For standard features, please refer to tutorials or troubleshooting guides for other StreamDock models.

Part 1How Do M3 Keys Work? (Magnetic Trigger Mechanism)

1.1 M3 Key Execution Logic

Unlike traditional StreamDock devices, MagTran M3 does not rely on conductive membranes to detect key presses.

Instead, M3 works as follows:

  • The entire key area operates within a stable magnetic field
  • Each key contains a small built-in magnet
  • When a key is pressed:

The magnetic field changes slightly

The control unit detects this change

It determines which key was pressed or released

The corresponding action is executed

Advantages:

  • No physical contact wear
  • More consistent triggering
  • Enables advanced interactions and visual effects

1.2 When Do You Need Magnetic Calibration?

Magnetic field parameters may shift under certain conditions, such as:

Exposure to strong magnetic environments during shipping

Magnetic interference on your desk

Keys behaving abnormally, for example:

  • Pressing a key does nothing
  • Pressing one key triggers another key’s action

In these cases, Magnetic Calibration is required.

1.3 How to Perform Magnetic Calibration (Step-by-Step)

When you click Magnetic Calibration in the software:

The device will temporarily stop normal operation and enter calibration mode.

Calibration Process:

  • All 15 LCD keys will light up blue one by one
  • When a key changes from blue to red:

Press and hold that key for about 3 seconds

  • After successful calibration:

The key will turn green

  • Repeat this process for all remaining keys
  • After completion:

Test all keys to ensure they trigger correctly

Tip for Best Results

  • Release the key only after the color changes
  • Avoid quick taps during calibration

If Calibration Is Interrupted
If power is lost or the process is interrupted:

  • Disconnect the device
  • Reconnect it
  • Restart the calibration process

Part 2Key Effects (Visual Feedback on Every Press)

2.1 What Are Key Effects?

Key Effects are a new visual feedback feature on M3.
When a key is pressed, an animated effect is played on that key area.

2.2 How to Set Up Key Effect

  • Right-click on any key
  • Select Key Effect Library
  • Choose an effect:

Assign a unique effect to a single key

Or enable random effects

Key Notes:

  • Each key works independently
  • Effects apply only to the selected key
  • Different effects can coexist on the same page

2.3 How to Disable Key Effects

If you no longer want an effect:

  • Simply reset the key effect for that key

Part 3Interactive Backgrounds

3.1 What Is an Interactive Background?

M3 introduces a new background category called Interactive Backgrounds.

These backgrounds:

  • Are rendered in real time by plugins
  • React to your actions
  • Enhance immersion and interactivity

While their setup differs slightly from static backgrounds, overall usage remains intuitive.

Part 4“Dynamic Screen Saver” Plugin Guide

4.1 What Does This Plugin Do?

The Dynamic Screen Saver plugin improves the device’s idle experience.

Instead of switching only between:

  • Screen off
  • Static backgrounds

The device can display dynamic, engaging content when idle.

4.2 How to Enter Screen Saver Mode

When your computer is active, the screen saver can be triggered in two ways:

  • Automatically

After a countdown

Or at a scheduled time

  • Manually

By pressing the assigned key

When the computer or device enters sleep:

The screen will first turn off (this is normal)

Pressing a key again will:

  • Wake the device
  • Display the screen saver
  • Toggle between screen off and screen saver (not the default wallpaper)

4.3 Two Screen Saver Display Modes

Mode 1: Information Dashboard (Recommended)

Includes:

  • Digital clock
  • Note panel
  • Time-based gradient lighting
  • Calendar

Notes:

  • Content is edited in the Notes plugin
  • Text syncs to the device’s notebook area

Supports:

  • Font size adjustment
  • Position customization

Mode 2: Minimal Mode

Consists of:

  • Digital clock
  • Background image

You can:

  • Customize clock color
  • Replace the background image freely

4.4 Important Notes (Please Read)

Make sure you are on the Screen Saver settings page

Otherwise, the device will only switch between:

  • Screen off
  • Default background

Additional limitations:

  • Only one screen saver can be active
  • Multiple screen savers cannot be applied to different pages
    (This prevents plugin conflicts)
